Some of the famous Museums and Art Galleries of the Rajasthan State include:
City Palace Museum - Jaipur
This museum was initiated in 1959 by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. The demonstration consists of the inherited collections which were built up by the Amer and Jaipur successive rulers.
A small collection of manuscripts, paintings, maps, textiles, carpets, weapons, armours and costumes were demonstrated in the Pothi-khana (library) and the Sileh-khana or armory of the museum palace.
The Art Gallery is placed in the Diwan-i-Aam which was build for holding chief State functions.
Hawa Mahal Museum - Jaipur
A museum was set up in 1983 just at the back of the beautiful Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds. It consists of the sculptural heritage composed from Virat Nagar, Ganeshwar Raid, Nagar.and Sambhar.
Albert Hall Museum - Jaipur
This museum is placed in the middle of the rambling Ram Niwas Bagh. It was constructed in 1876 and is the oldest Museum of the State. It was opened for general public in the year 1886.
Mehrangarh Museum - Jodhpur
An outstanding museum with interesting and rare textiles, artifacts, transport items, paintings, etc. laid out with greatest care and notion. The Howdah and Palanquin Galleries exhibit a wonderful collection of old and expensive samples of great chronological value.
Umaid Bhavan Palace Museum - Jodhpur
A part of the enormous Umaid Bhawan Palace was converted into a palace museum by the Jodhpur ruling family. Its display items include many rare collections of ornate mirrored furniture, fine china, rocks, glass, crystal ware, photographs and watches, etc.
Govt. Museum - Ajmer
The museum is placed in the striking castle and palace build by Akbar (Mughal Emperor) in 1570. It is at this place where the British representative Sir Thomas Roe met the Emperor Jahangir in the year 1616. It is situated close to railway station in the heart of Ajmer, the old city. The museum was given the name “magazine” by the Britishers when it was used as “the Rajputana Arsenal” in 1857.
Govt. Museum - Bharatpur
Housed in the middle of the well-known Lohagarh Fort, the Government Museum of Bharatpur houses an affluent compilation of the archaeological assets of the nearby areas.
Kachahari Kalan, the huge regal building and which was once the managerial block of Bharatpur state rulers, was transformed into a Museum in the year 1944. Later on, the Kamra Khas building (personal chamber) was added on the first floor to the museum. It shows sculptures found during the quarry of the old villages’ example - Noh, Bareh, Bayana, Mailah, etc. ranging from the period of Kuslian.
Govt. Museum - Alwar
This museum has a unique compilation of arms, lacquered ivory work, bidri work, musical instruments, pottery works, beautiful brass and stuffed animals, from Jaipur, Bengal, Ceylon and Multan - Persian and Sanskrit manuscripts and miniature paintings. The museum contains three key sections, housed in a huge hall.
Govt. Museum - Jodhpur
This famous museum of Jodhpur has a large and quite interesting collection. Which includes many stuffed animal, including numerous desert birds (in two glass cases), each with a prickle bush. The armed section includes an extraordinary brass battle ship and cumbersome wooden biplane models.
Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum - Udaipur
The fascinating collections put on display by the Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum (Indian folk arts museum) includes ornaments, folk dresses, puppets, dolls, masks, folk deities, paintings and folk musical instruments. |
